I like your explanation, but do you mean to say "I see Albert Pujols go long and exclaim, "BOOYA!" rather than "go yard and exclaim, "BOOYA!"

Subject: 'Booya'--'going yard'
"go yard" is an expression that means hitting the ball out of the yard (i.e., out of the ballpark a/k/a homerun). Thus, I think we are saying the same thing. Thanks for the comment.

Recently saw the movie Ninotchka,early 40's or late 30's, 3 russian envoys used the word "booya" many times. Maybe its Yiddish.
