The publication of Herodian Messiah has spawned a substantial number of user comments on various disparate issues discussed in the book. The interaction between Jesus and Pontius Pilate on the day of the crucifixion is one such topic.

    Comment:
Joe: Pilate interviews Jesus who admits that he is king of the Jews. Pilate replies that he finds no fault with the man! If Pilate finds no fault in Jesus' claim to be king of the Jews, then Pilate must have believed that Jesus had a legitimate claim to the throne.

Steefen: In 36 C.E. Rome had decided not to put a client-king in Judea. This had been the case for a while. Jesus would need to seek permission from Rome to be a governor of Judaea, let alone a king. Pilate "must have" told Jesus that? Was Satan's temptation of Jesus a real incident such that Rome did offer Jesus a position of authority?
