Surge to Hell April, May and June of 2007 were collectively the three deadliest months for US troops in the whole of the Iraq War. See Monthly chart of US military deaths in Iraq. For perspective, the 2007 second quarter death toll of 331 represents a 60% increase over the same period in 2006. This isn't an isolated trend. The average monthly US troop deaths in Iraq was 48.6 in 2003. It has surged to 95.8 in 2007. As Presidents Johnson and Nixon learned in Vietnam, an escalation in US troops equals an escalation in US casualties. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. 07/01/2007.
