Voters: "Up Your's Bush!"

Well the war party got it's ass handed to it in yesterday's election. A big fat booya! Do you think anyone at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue got the message? The Dems picked up 30+ seats in the house making Nancy Pelosi the first female speaker in the nation's history. She'll be 3rd in line to succeed the president under the Constitution. Even more amazingly, the Dems picked up 5 senate seats (Rhode Island, Missouri, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Ohio) and are leading in a 6th (Virginia) with a recount soon to be underway. In all probability, Jim Webb's 3,000 vote lead in Virginia will hold up in the recount giving the Dems control of the Senate by a narrow 51-49 margin. We'll all miss Sen. Rick Santorum who lost in Pennsylvania ("You know 'Santorum' is Latin for asshole," quoteth former Senator Bob Kerry).

And this just in: Don Rumsfeld is to resign as Secretary of Defense. Remember this quip from President Bush in reference to call by generals to fire Rumsfeld: "I'm the decider and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense." Link. As late as Monday (i.e., two days ago), the Decider-In-Chief had been telling all who would listen that Don Rumsfeld was doing a fine job and should stay on as Secretary. I guess Karl Rove overruled George W. and told him Rummy had to go. Somebody has to take the fall and George W. has not taken responsibility for one of the innumerable fuckups in the 6 years of his presidency. Why start now? He'll be replace by former CIA Director Robert Gates. Gates is dean of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. A big policy shift at the Pentagon is sure to follow under Gates' watch. This guy is a Bush / Neocon lackey. Same old, same old.
