Herod's family tree
Below is a depiction of the family tree of Herod the Great which appears in my book Herodian Messiah. It's a good graphic presentation of Herod's family lineage but does omit several minor wives of Herod--Pallas (with whom Herod fathered a son, Phasael) and Phaidra (with whom he fathered a daughter, Roxane). There were two additional wives whose names are not known to history.
** The individual appearing at the bottom of the list is named "Mariamne IV" or Mariamne bat Antigonus. Josephus mentions here but one time as the wife of Antipater ben Herod, who was at her husband's side during his trial for patricide before Roman Governor Varus in 4 or 5 BCE at Jerusalem. Josephus doesn't even give user her first name. It is my reasoned supposition that she was Mariamne (a common Hasmonean royal name).
The women whose names have been highlighted in purple are of royal Hasmonean ancestry. A red check-mark next to a name indicates that Herod executed or assassinated the individual.
